Price Trends 2020

THE YEAR OF THE RAT

General

we will no doubt all experience a volatile time in the meat trade this year

Sterlings wild fluctuations and brexit looming on the 31st Jan 2020 and the possibility of trading with the EU on WTO rules from the 1/1/2021 will add to confusion on the supply and demand front.

IWP BONELESS PORK COLLARS x 13.6 KG.

ASF has been the main driving force behind the price over the last few months . The desease is wide spread throughout China and eastern europe. This problem has seen prices rise to over £3.50 p kg as China searched the world for pork supplies

.. Sterlings depreciation against the Euro may continue if WTO rules are in place.

we feel a slide in prices are possible from these levels especially as the Chinese New Year ends on the 25th Jan which could mean demand may slow for a time- but who knows when the demand will commence

the concensus is that prices may rise after March when demand may resume as suppplies are critical due to the ASF crisis

BRAZ CHICKEN BREAST FILLETS x 15kg HCLP

The trade experienced high prices last year - up to £3.20 plus per kg -with some financial problems and slack demand we witnessed prices dropping to around £2.20

however demand could improve from March onwards which could see the prices stableising from these levels. The sterling rate against the dollar needs to be looked at constantly as this may affect prices .

We feel it prudent to buy from hand to mouth as supplies at present do not seem to be a problem although costs could increase with a stronger dollar.

STANDARD BELLY RIBS x10 KG CARTONS

Here again heavy demand for export has caused prices to rise appreciably due to ASF prevailing in Asia and eastern europe.

prices have risen substantially this year for good quality and semi meaty ribs.

As we are in the winter period we do not envisage any appreciable price difference presently but one to watch as we approach the summer season .

. One to watch !

CHILLED BEEF PAD

We have seen very volatile prices recently with the overall trend upwards.

Supplies are critical at present and here again demand is affected by influences from outside the EU and UK.

however we may see prices soften a touch as supplies meet demand .

As we are dealing mainly with chilled product we are wondering what the position will be after July 31 st when we may be on the path of WTO rules

Certainly one to watch

CHIPS CHILLED  and FROZEN 2x5 KG CARTONS    LUTOSA grade A 14mm

Supplies are now beginning to meet demand and the new crop appears to be in good order.

We are therefore having to adapt to more consistant prices than we thought was possible some time ago but we feel the present levels are maintainable albeit with possibly some adjustments due to the better supply position
